Everything You Need to Know Before You Travel

If you're planning a trip to Nepal, getting your visa is simple. Most visitors can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or various land borders with India and Tibet.

Note: Citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Cameroon, Swaziland, Iraq, Ethiopia, Liberia, or Palestine must apply in advance through a Nepalese embassy.

How to Get Your Visa on Arrival

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months' validity and one blank page.
  • Fill out the online visa application form within 15 days of arrival.
  • Pay visa fee in cash or by credit card.

Entry Points to Nepal

  • Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu
  • Kakarvitta (Jhapa, Eastern Nepal)
  • Birgunj (Parsa, Central Nepal)
  • Kodari (Sindhupalchowk, Northern Border)
  • Belhiya, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal)
  • Jamunaha, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid-western Nepal)
  • Mohana, Dhangadhi / Gaddachauki (Far-western Nepal)

Visa Fees

  • USD 30 – 15 days
  • USD 50 – 30 days
  • USD 125 – 90 days

SAARC nationals get a free visa for up to 30 days (excluding Afghanistan). Indian citizens do not need a visa but must carry valid ID if entering by air.

Visa Extensions

  • Up to 15 days – USD 30
  • More than 15 days – USD 2 per day after the first 15
  • Maximum: 150 days in a calendar year

Transit Visa

If you're stopping over or your flight lands unexpectedly, you can get a 1-day transit visa for USD 5 or equivalent.

Important Reminders

  • Overstaying or entering without a visa is illegal.
  • A Visa can also be obtained at embassies/consulates abroad.
  • Visa fees are non-refundable and non-changeable.
  • Children under 10 require a visa but are not charged.
  • Inform the Immigration Department if you get a new passport.
  • Always carry your passport and permits while trekking.
  • Respect local customs, culture, and filming restrictions.
